If you have questions about fluoride, you’ve come to the right place. Dr. Troy Hardy and our dental team are more than happy to help you! Here are some frequently asked fluoride questions and their answers:
Q: What is fluoride?
A: Fluoride is a mineral that can be found in many natural resources. This mineral has unique and powerful properties that naturally help rebuild your tooth enamel, protecting your child’s and your teeth from decay and infection.
Q: Where can I find fluoride?
A: Your main source of daily fluoride should come from your toothpaste and mouthwash. You can also check online to see if your city or town puts fluoride in your tap water. If so, you and your child can be exposed to fluoride just by drinking it. Some mineralized bottled water also contains fluoride. Tomatoes, carrots, spinach and pickles also contain small amounts of fluoride.
Q: What’s a professional fluoride treatment?
A: Copper Cove Pediatric Dentistry offers a fluoride treatment after any routine dental cleaning and exam. We use a fluoride foam, gel, or varnish to paint the fluoride onto your child’s teeth or will fill a mouth tray with fluoride and place it on your child’s smile for a time, where they afterwards can rinse their mouth with water. This treatment is an excellent way to fortify their enamel.
