The Answers to Questions About Children’s Dental Care

Posted .

If you’re like many other parents in the world, you’re not quite sure how to properly and effectively care for your child’s smile. Well, our dentist, Dr. Troy Hardy, is happy to help you! Today, he would like to teach you a few things by giving you some answers to the following commonly asked questions about children’s dental care:

Q: How often should I clean my child’s teeth and gums?
A: You should brush your child’s teeth twice a day, every morning and night. You should also floss your child’s teeth daily. However, if you’re still waiting for your child’s teeth to grow into place, you don’t need to worry about flossing. This is because the teeth aren’t tightly knit together yet and the brush can clean between the teeth when you scrub.

Q: What oral hygiene tools should I use to clean my child’s smile?
A: You should use a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and children’s toothpaste. If your child doesn’t know to spit the toothpaste into the sink, then you should get swallow-safe toothpaste. If your child is younger than 3 years old, you should use fluoride-free toothpaste.

Q: How often should I take my child to the dental office for a checkup?
A: You should bring your child into our office six months after their first tooth erupts or around their first birthday. After their first visit, you should bring them in every six months.
